Located on the shore of Lake Alster, this curvaceous hotel sits right at the heart of this northern German city. Designed by Hamburg-born architect Jan Störmer, the building consists of three interlocking circles which complement and enhance the natural surroundings. The enclosed glass courtyard with its trees is one of the hotel’s most enchanting locales. Rooms too feature floor-to-ceiling windows, flooding them with light. Interior furnishings harmoniously combine oak floors that once stood as trees in Fontenay Abbey in Burgundy, décor from Danish designer Georg Jensen and artwork by Peruvian painter Antonio Máro. Technology enhances the guest experience at the Fontenay. Blinds are opened and closed from a touchpad, which also controls the light and air conditioning.
The seamless marriage between city and nature is the Fontenay’s draw card. Your connection to the outside extends far beyond a mere view. The clever architecture ensures that the two spaces play off each other, creating a peaceful oasis that’s as calm as it is convenient.
